Navigating Craniofacial Challenges: Insights from Dr. Hollier

Join us for this profoundly insightful session featuring Dr. Larry Hollier, a renowned craniofacial surgeon and chair of Smile Train’s Medical Advisory Board, as he shares his invaluable advice and perspective on navigating the complexities of clefts and other craniofacial conditions. “Don’t Google It”: Telling Family and Friends Your Child Will Have a Cleft

One of the first challenges parents encounter after they get the cleft diagnosis is, “How do we share the news? When?” In this session, you will get practical advice, compassionate insights, and firsthand perspectives from people who have been there. Through shared experiences and supportive dialogue, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the emotions and concerns that parents, siblings, grandparents, and other family members may experience and learn how to provide meaningful support and encouragement.
Empowering the Next Generation: Navigating Cleft Care, Appearance, and Social Challenges with Resilience

At Cleft Con, we are dedicated to empowering children and teens with clefts to navigate their journey with confidence, resilience, and self-acceptance. Join us for an engaging fireside chat featuring Crystle Stewart, Miss USA 2008, and an esteemed member of Smile Train's board of directors. In this intimate conversation moderated by Troy Reinhart, Senior Vice President of community and ambassador Development, participants will have the opportunity to hear Crystle's inspiring journey and learn more about her impactful work with Smile Train.
Reflecting on Love Meets Joy: Season Two

Join advocates Iva Ballou and Ashley Barbour as they take a heartfelt journey through Season Two of Love Meets Joy. Throughout Season Two, Iva and Ashley had the privilege of interviewing several members of the cleft community, each with their own unique stories and perspectives. From these candid conversations, they explored themes of resilience, acceptance, and the power of community support in overcoming obstacles. Join us as we reflect on the impactful moments, touching stories, and valuable lessons learned throughout Love Meets Joy: Season Two. This session promises to inspire and uplift as we celebrate the strength and unity within the cleft community.

When is Cleft Con Houston?
The conference begins with a Welcome Dinner on July 19th at The Goode Company Armadillo Palace. Sessions, Community Building activities, and a light breakfast and lunch will be held at the InterContinental from 8:00am-5:30pm on July 20th. A Closing Dinner will be held at the InterContinental beginning at 7:00pm that evening.

What if I can only attend part of the conference?
No problem! In the registration form you can let us know which portions you will be joining.
How much does it cost to attend the event?
There is no cost to attend Cleft Con.
Who can attend the event?
Cleft-affected individuals and their close connections are invited to attend Cleft Con.
Can children attend the conference?
Children over the age of ten are welcome to attend the conference. Please reach out to us at cleftcon@smiletrain.org if you are interested in learning more about childcare services.
Will there be food at the event?
Yes, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided at the conference.
I am traveling for Cleft Con. Where should I stay?
We recommend that non-local attendees stay at The InterContinental. Use this link to reserve a room in our room block.

I am unable to attend Cleft Con Houston. Can I watch it virtually?
This event will not be live-streamed, but we invite you to join our 5th Annual Virtual Global Cleft Con on Saturday, November 2nd.
Will there be a Cleft Con in my city?
We hope to host Cleft Con in cities across the country in the future. We also have our virtual Cleft Con each November, and we encourage members of the cleft community to join as we have speakers and attendees from around the world. The 5th Annual Global Cleft Con will be held on Saturday, November 2th.
Do I have to be a Smile Train supporter to attend Cleft Con?
Cleft Con is open to all members of the global cleft community, and you do not need to be a Smile Train supporter to participate.
